Carbon dioxide assimilation by a wetland sedge canopy exposed to ambient and elevated CO
نویسنده
چکیده
1. The wetland sedge Scirpus olneyi Gray displays fast rates of CO 2 assimilation and responds positively to increased atmospheric CO 2 concentration. The present study was aimed at identifying the ecophysiological traits specific to S. olneyi that drive these CO 2 -assimilation patterns under ambient and elevated CO 2 conditions. 2. The net ecosystem exchange (NEE) of CO 2 between S. olneyi communities and the atmosphere was measured in open-top chambers. 3. We developed a new mechanistic model for S. olneyi communities based on published ecophysiological data and additional measurements of photosynthetic parameters. 4. Our NEE measurements confirmed that S. olneyi communities have a high rate of summertime CO 2 assimilation, with noontime peaks reaching 40 μ mol CO 2 m − 2

Spectral reflectance from a soybean canopy exposed to elevated CO2 and O3
By affecting the physiology and structure of plant canopies, increasing atmospheric CO(2) and O(3) influence the capacity of agroecosystems to capture light and convert that light energy into biomass, ultimately affecting productivity and yield. The objective of this study was to determine if established remote sensing indices could detect the direct and interactive effects of elevated CO(2) an...

Due to past limitations in experimental technology, canopy function has generally been inferred from leaf properties through scaling and/or indirect measurements. The development of a facility (EcoCELLs) at the Desert Research Institute has now made it possible to directly measure canopy gas exchange. In this experiment, sunflowers (Helianthus annus) were planted in the EcoCELLs and grown under...
متن کاملResponses of field - grown soybean ( cv . Essex ) to elevated S O 2 under two atmospheric CO 2 concentrations Edward
The objective of this research was to determine the effects of elevated concentrations of carbon dioxide (CO2) and sulfur dioxide (SO2) on field-grown soybean. Soybeans (Glycine max L. Merr. cv. "Essex) were grown a full-season in open-top field chambers exposed to either ambient (350 #l L -j) or elevated CO2 (500 #l L -j) levels under two levels of SO2 (0.00 and 0.12 #l L-t). Enriched CO2, wit...

Wetlands evapotranspire more water than other ecosystems, including agricultural, forest and grassland ecosystems. However, the effects of elevated atmospheric carbon dioxide (C02) concentration (Ca) on wetland evapotranspiration (ET) are largely unknown. Here, we present data on 12 years of measurements of ET, net ecosystem C02 exchange (NEE), and ecosystem water use efficiency (EWUE, i.e. NEE...
متن کاملBranch growth and gas exchange in 13 - year - old loblolly pine ( Pinus taeda ) trees in response to elevated carbon dioxide concentration and fertilization CHRIS
We used whole-tree, open-top chambers to expose 13-year-old loblolly pine (Pinus taeda L.) trees, growing in soil with high or low nutrient availability, to either ambient or elevated (ambient + 200 µmol mol –1) carbon dioxide concentration ([CO 2 ]) for 28 months. Branch growth and morphology , foliar chemistry and gas exchange characteristics were measured periodically in the upper, middle an...
